How to Alter Your Pre-Built Texture Maps
The goal of the day is to modify a texture on the fly.
It may happen when you are working in a small team, or you want to do some color testing that you want to change the color of a texture already in the project.
If it’s a simple thing and it’s done in white we can take advantage of the choice of colors in our Albedo channel. But in case of more complex textures, it is better to go use external editing software.
In my case, I used Affinity photo but you can use any photo editing software.
For this kind of editing you don’t need special skills, I am particularly lacking when it comes to using photoshop and the like.
First, let’s go find the texture we want to edit then from within the project let’s go select the texture we need to edit and select the “Show in Explorer/Reveal in Finder”.
Now, we need to open it with the image editor
In this case, I want to get a cold, grayish color, so I’m not going to contour or use the magic wand to select the color I want to change.
It would take a lot of time, and it wouldn’t even be a good job, at least with my skills.
Simply based on the software I’m using, I’m going to change its saturation and contrast.
With a little bit of trial and error, I came to a solution that I liked as well.
Now you just need to replicate the set of changes you made to the other textures as well to get a consistent result.
